Nebraska Work Incentives Planning and Assistance (WIPA)

Complex disability benefit regulations have made it difficult for individuals with disabilities to enter the workforce while still maintaining essential healthcare safety nets. Easterseals Nebraska can help!

Nebraska Work Incentives Planning and Assistance (WIPA) projects promote employment by helping Social Security disability beneficiaries understand and use available work incentives. These special provisions allow individuals to enter or re-enter the workforce while protecting their eligibility for cash benefits and/or health care benefits until they can become self-sufficient.

Did you know?

  • Paid employment and Social Security disability benefits are not mutually exclusive. Beneficiaries do not have to choose between work and benefits.
  • It is possible to work (even full-time) and keep Medicaid and/or Medicare in almost every case.
  • It is possible to work and come out ahead financially even if public benefits are reduced or even ceased.
  • It is possible to receive disability benefits again if they are lost due to employment.

Our services include:

  • Comprehensive and individualized analysis of the impact of employment on SSA cash benefits and other public benefits.
  • Work incentives education and management.
  • Practical tools and guidance on reporting income to SSA and other administrative agencies.
  • Follow-up support as you make progress toward your employment goal. 

Am I eligible?

WIPA projects offer FREE services to individuals through a cooperative agreement between the Social Security Administration and community-based organizations. 

  • Are you currently working or interested in work?
  • Do you receive or are you eligible to receive SSDI and/or SSI?
  • Are you at least 14 years old but not yet full retirement age?

 If you answered ‘Yes’ to all of the above, you qualify for WIPA services!
